signs?

Has someone been leaving things for me to find along the road to the new town? it seems strange but Im seeing a lot of ...brightly colored socks.... and candles which are burned down to nubbins. 

if I could ask if someone could light candles closer to town Id be grateful. Right now the snails and I are traveling by moonlight alone.
